PART B: SECTION 3. TECHNOLOGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

a. The technology to be used in community radio stations should be simple, affordable and user-friendly to the community.
b. Conscious efforts should be made towards the local development of appropriate technology (for community radio) which should be within the available resources and technical competence of the community
c. Equipment purchased for or donated to community radio stations must be compatible with Nigerian needs and environment with availability of local spare and technical back up
d. All forms of equipment or technology deployed by community radio stations must be backed by a well-articulated and religiously observed maintenance culture
e. There must be continuous research on technology so that equipment procurement and utilization move in consonance with international best practices.
f. Government policy and programme implementation must assure availability of ICT infrastructure like telephone and internet facilities to which community radio and its cost communities can have unlimited access.
g. Community radio stations should use the internet in generating and distributing content through mechanisms which include programme exchange and syndication
h. The regulatory body, along with engineering industry association and Community Radio Coalition, should actively encourage and promote local expertise and the production of broadcast equipment
i. Government must give priority to rural electrification. Its energy policy must accommodate use of various power sources, including solar sources.
j. Community radio operators must ensure that their stations are supported by realistic, sustainable electric power sources – ready, available, regular and of high quality
